The STAR Project provides short-term assistance to families of children or adults who experience developmental disabilities. The project is committed to strengthening families by providing help before a crisis occurs and by responding with problem solving and resources when families encounter temporary difficulties. Some of the ways the STAR Project can help:
- Providing information about programs and/or people who can help
- Helping arrange meetings to get services started
- Helping families file applications with the state’s Senior and Disabilities Services (SDS), respite programs, SSI, Medicaid, and other assistance programs
- Assistance in locating adaptive equipment
- Assistance in locating natural supports
- Providing short term respite care if the family is not enrolled in a respite program
- Attending educational and medical meetings when requested by the family
- Assisting with behavioral issues
- Listening, problem solving, and planning for the future
